Amazon UK recently announced a series of fee changes set to take effect in early 2025. This Seller Central update, titled 2025 updates to Europe referral and Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) fees, focuses on lowering costs for many products, simplifying oversized item tiers, and introducing incentives to boost new selection.

These changes make fulfilment pricing more predictable, allowing sellers to confidently plan and scale their operations. Amazon explained in its official post, "In 2025, our priority is to simplify our fee structures and lower your costs, all while continuing to collaborate with you to delight customers and drive sustainable growth." The company also acknowledged that "although inflation remains a factor influencing expenses, we have actively worked to reduce our serving costs through innovation, greater efficiency, and the elimination of unnecessary complexities."

Below is a concise overview of what UK sellers can expect.

Fee Reductions on FBA Parcels and Oversized Items
One of the main highlights is that Amazon will not raise — and in many cases will lower — FBA fulfilment fees for both parcel and oversize products in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. If you sell oversized products, note that the rate structure is being simplified from 28 tiers to just 17, with a base rate plus a fixed, per-kg fee. Overall, this should simplify cost calculations and potentially reduce costs for standard oversized items.

Referral Fee Changes and New Minimums
Heavy items (non-sortable) also get a lift. Amazon is lowering the minimum referral fee for these bulky goods from £25/€25 to £20/€20. This makes it more cost-effective for sellers who list large or heavy products through FBA. This adjustment could mean better margins on each sale for many UK sellers focusing on furniture, gym equipment, or other bulky items.

Adjustments to Envelopes and Low-Priced FBA
Not all fees are decreasing, but Amazon stresses they're aligning fees with actual costs. FBA fulfilment fees for envelopes and low-priced FBA items may see some changes. Sellers using small envelope tiers will benefit from a new size classification. This new category is expected to cut down on unpredictable charges, giving you more consistent price points for lightweight items.

Storage and Surcharges
Storage fees will see adjustments, too. The monthly storage fee, storage utilization surcharge, and aged inventory surcharge are changing. Notably, the aged inventory surcharge will now apply to items stored for 241 to 270 days. If you have stock that moves slowly, consider adjusting your inventory strategy or exploring Amazon's liquidation programs.

Returns Processing Delay
Amazon is pushing back its plan to introduce a returns processing fee for high-return-rate products to February 1, 2025. This delay gives sellers extra time to strategize, optimize product listings, and manage any potential impact on return rates.

New Seller Incentives and Selection Growth
Starting January 15, 2025, Amazon will upgrade its New Seller Incentives and FBA New Selection programs. These time-bound discounts aim to promote certain product categories, boost the number of everyday essentials, and expand brand variety in Amazon's European stores. Eligible sellers could benefit from reduced fees for these target products, so it's worth keeping an eye on the Seller Benefits page for upcoming promotions.

The 2025 fee structure changes are designed to simplify costs, reward sellers who add new inventory, and reduce unexpected charges. By offering lowered rates on oversized items, adjusting referral fees, and creating new incentives for fresh selection, Amazon is signalling its commitment to more predictable, transparent fees for UK sellers.

With key dates coming in January and February of 2025, now is the time to review your inventory strategy. Watch for the updated fee calculators and fee preview tools Amazon plans to release. These resources can help you better understand how the changes affect your business and prepare you for another year of growth on Amazon's European marketplaces.
