Amazon Acquires One Medical for $3.9B
Expanding its foothold into the growing healthcare industry, Amazon has acquired One Medical, the technology powered primary care organization, based in San Francisco. On Wednesday, Amazon officially announced closing the $3.9 billion acquisition.
Notably, the buyout was made public on 21st July 2022 and health authorities cleared the deal in an official order issued on 29th December 2022. The deal is expected to boost Amazon’s growing healthcare footprint, which includes Amazon Pharmacy and telehealth service Amazon Clinic.
One Medical, owned by San Francisco-based 1Life Healthcare Inc, has about 815,000 members and 221 medical offices in more than 20 markets until December 2022 and posted $1.04 billion in revenue last year.
In an official letter, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said customers want and deserve better. He added that One Medical has been working and innovating for more than a decade in accessible healthcare. He believes that coming together of Amazon and One Medical will make the healthcare experience easier, faster and more personal.
