Amazon announces Holiday Peak Fulfillment Fee for 2023

Amazon announces Holiday Peak Fulfillment Fee for 2023

Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, has announced that it will charge a Holiday Peak Fulfillment Fee for Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) items from October 15, 2023 to January 14, 2024. The fee is similar to those charged by other major carriers and covers increased fulfilment and transportation operating costs during the busy holiday shopping season.

The fee will apply to US FBA, Canada FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, and Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) items except for US FBA items priced under $10. The fee rates are unchanged from 2022 for US and Canada FBA. The fee will vary depending on the size and weight of the items, ranging from $0.75 to $4.90 per unit.

The announcement was made on the Seller Central platform by Amazon, where sellers can access their account information, manage their inventory, and communicate with Amazon support. The platform also hosts a discussion forum for sellers, where they can share their experiences, ask questions, and get updates on Amazon policies and features.

Sellers can review detailed rates by size and weight for US FBA, Canada FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, and MCF on the following help pages:

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions from sellers, who use FBA to store their products in Amazon's warehouses and have them picked, packed, shipped, and serviced by Amazon. Some sellers expressed their dissatisfaction with the fee, saying that it is unfair, unnecessary, or too high. Amazon defends the fee claiming that it’s average fulfillment fees are 30% less expensive than slower standard shipping methods of other major third-party logistics providers.

However, some sellers asked questions about the fee, such as whether it will be lowered or removed in the future, or whether it includes a fuel surcharge fee that was added last year. Some sellers also suggested ways to avoid or reduce the fee, such as increasing their prices, switching to other fulfillment methods, or selling on other platforms.

Amazon has not responded to the sellers' feedback or queries yet. However, the company has stated that the fee is designed to help them deliver fast and reliable service to customers during the peak season. The company has also provided resources and tips for sellers to prepare for the holiday season and optimize their inventory management.

The Holiday Peak Fulfillment Fee is one of the many fees that Amazon charges sellers who use its services. Other fees include referral fees, storage fees, long-term storage fees, removal fees, disposal fees, and return processing fees. These fees vary depending on the product category, sales volume, storage duration, and other factors.
