In an official statement, the company said, Amazon strives to be the earth’s most inclusive and accessible employer for people with disabilities. Disability:IN’s Disability Equality Index pushes us to raise the bar on our work month over month.’’

What is Disability Equality Index (DEI)?
The Disability Equality Index (DEI) is a tool that measures how well companies are doing in terms of disability inclusion and equality. It is a joint initiative of Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), two organizations that advocate for the rights and opportunities of people with disabilities.

The DEI evaluates companies on six categories: Culture & Leadership, Enterprise-Wide Access, Employment Practices, Community Engagement, Supplier Diversity, and Non-U.S. Operations. Companies that participate in the DEI receive a score from 0 to 100, and those that score 80 or higher are recognized as “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion”.

The DEI was launched in 2015 and has grown rapidly since then. In 2023, 485 companies participated in the DEI, which is more than 70% of the Fortune 100 and nearly half of the Fortune 500. The DEI helps companies identify best practices and areas for improvement in their disability inclusion efforts. It also helps them gain brand recognition and customer loyalty among people with disabilities and their allies. The DEI also supports the global movement for disability inclusion, as it has expanded to include non-U.S. operations and has inspired similar initiatives in other countries.

The DEI is a valuable resource for companies that want to advance disability inclusion and equality in their workplaces and beyond. It is also a way for them to demonstrate their commitment and leadership in this area.
