Amazon Enhances Return Insights Dashboard, Reminds Sellers of Upcoming Returns Processing Fee Changes

Sellers to Face Fees for High Return-Rate Products, Excluding Apparel and Shoes

By Staff Writer

Amazon recently announced updates to its Return Insights dashboard on the Seller Central platform. The announcement also serves as a reminder for sellers about the upcoming Returns Processing Fee, which will take effect on June 1, 2024, for products with high return rates, excluding apparel and shoes.

Key Updates to the Return Insights Dashboard
The Return Insights dashboard, accessible through the FBA Returns page, now includes the following insights to help sellers better understand their returns and identify actions to minimize the risk of incurring returns processing fees:
1. Number of returned units and return rate percentages used for fee calculation
2. Minimum return rate thresholds above which fees are charged
3. Number of returned units above the threshold subject to fees

The official announcement states, "To help you better understand your returns and return rates, and identify actions you can take to limit your risk of incurring returns processing fees, we've made improvements to the Return Insights dashboard on the FBA Returns page."

Returns Processing Fee: How It Works
The updated Returns Processing Fee will be assessed based on product returns across a three-month period, starting from the month the product is shipped and ending two calendar months later. For instance, products shipped in June will have their returns tracked through June, July, and August. The fee will only apply if the total number of returns for the products shipped in that month surpasses the threshold set for the specific product's fee category, which is now available on the Returns Processing Fee page.

Impact on Sellers and Action Steps
Sellers should be proactive in monitoring their return rates and utilizing the enhanced Return Insights dashboard to identify areas for improvement. By understanding the fee structure, return rate calculations, thresholds, and exemptions, sellers can take appropriate measures to minimize the impact of the Returns Processing Fee on their businesses.

To avoid incurring fees, sellers should focus on:
1. Improving product quality and descriptions to reduce return rates
2. Closely monitoring return trends using the Return Insights dashboard
3. Ensuring products are correctly categorized to benefit from applicable exemptions
4. Considering enrollment in the New Selection Program, which waives the fee for the first 20 returned units exceeding the return rate threshold

Amazon has clarified that the updated Returns Processing Fee will not apply to products that ship less than 25 units in a month. Additionally, products enrolled in the New Selection Program will have the fee waived for the first 20 returned units that exceed the return rate threshold.

As the June 1, 2024 implementation date approaches, sellers are advised to familiarize themselves with the updated Returns Processing Fee policy and leverage the enhanced Return Insights dashboard to make informed decisions and maintain profitability on the Amazon platform.
