Amazon expands logistics network with new transshipment centres in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh

New Amazon facilities in eastern and central India aim to improve delivery speed and inventory movement

Amazon India is continuing its logistics expansion across the country with the launch of two new transshipment centres in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh later this month. The update was officially announced on Seller Central, where the company informed sellers about the operational rollout and the compliance steps needed to support inventory movement to the new facilities.

According to the announcement, the Jharkhand transshipment centre, identified as SIXR, will become operational on May 20, 2026, while the Chhattisgarh facility, identified as SRPI, will open on May 25, 2026.

The move is expected to strengthen Amazon’s regional logistics infrastructure and improve package movement efficiency in eastern and central India, especially for customers located in tier-2 and tier-3 markets.

New facilities aimed at faster inventory movement
Amazon said the new sites are transshipment centres, meaning they will only receive shipments transferred from other fulfilment centres. Sellers will not be able to send their Fulfilment by Amazon shipments directly to these locations.

However, the company clarified that inventory may still be routed through these centres as part of Amazon’s wider distribution network. Because of this, sellers using FBA services must update their GST registration certificates to include both facilities as “additional places of business”.

Amazon warned that failure to update GST records could prevent inventory from being distributed through these centres. This may affect delivery speed and inventory placement efficiency for customers in nearby regions.

Facility locations shared on Seller Central
Amazon also shared the addresses of the new facilities in the Seller Central notification.

SIXR facility in Jharkhand:
Kedar Dharam Kata, Tatisilwai Industrial Area Phase 2, Chatra, Tatisilwai 835103

SRPI facility in Chhattisgarh:
Jindal Warehouse Private Limited, Ph No.-22, Khasra No-475/2, 476/2, Village-Giroud, Ring Road No.-3, Tehsil-Dharsiwa 493111

The company advised sellers to update these addresses through the GST portal and then upload the revised GST registration certificate in Seller Central through the FBA dashboard.

Why the update matters for Amazon sellers
The expansion highlights Amazon India’s continued focus on reducing delivery timelines and increasing logistics capacity ahead of major sales events and rising e-commerce demand across India.

For FBA sellers, the update is particularly important because inventory placement flexibility directly affects delivery speed, Prime eligibility, and regional stock availability.

Industry observers believe the addition of facilities in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh could improve delivery coverage in several nearby states, including Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Sellers who quickly update their GST documentation may benefit from:
• Faster customer deliveries in underserved regions
• Improved inventory distribution across Amazon’s network
• Reduced chances of regional stock shortages
• Better support during peak shopping seasons

Amazon continues aggressive infrastructure expansion in India
The latest announcement comes as Amazon continues to expand its fulfilment and logistics network across India. In recent months, the company has opened and upgraded multiple fulfilment centres, sortation hubs, and delivery stations to support growing seller and customer demand.

Earlier this year, Amazon expanded fulfilment capacity in states including Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. The company has also been investing in automation, AI-driven inventory placement, and regional warehousing to reduce delivery costs and improve operational efficiency.

Amazon India has repeatedly stated that strengthening regional infrastructure remains a key priority as online shopping demand grows rapidly beyond metro cities.

What sellers should do next
Amazon sellers using FBA are advised to complete the GST update process before the facilities become operational later this month. Sellers should:
• Add both new facility addresses as additional places of business on the GST portal
• Download the updated GST registration certificate
• Upload the revised document through Seller Central’s FBA dashboard
• Contact their account manager or Amazon compliance support if needed

Amazon also mentioned that sellers can seek assistance through their account manager or by contacting infc-compliance@amazon.in for further guidance.

With Amazon continuing to expand its logistics footprint in India, sellers who stay compliant and adapt quickly to infrastructure updates are likely to gain better regional reach and faster fulfilment advantages in the competitive e-commerce marketplace.
