Amazon Household: A New Way to Share Prime Benefits with Your Family

Maximize Your Prime Membership by Sharing Benefits with Family Members Through Amazon Household

By Staff Writer

Amazon has introduced a new feature, Amazon Household, which allows Prime members to share their benefits with family members. This update not only enhances the user experience but also provides significant advantages for sellers on the platform.

What is Amazon Household?
Amazon Household is designed to extend the benefits of a Prime membership to your entire family. It allows you to share numerous Prime perks with other adults, teens, and children, making your membership more valuable. A Household can include up to six members: two adults, up to four teens, and up to four children. Adding or removing members and sharing content is a straightforward process.

Benefits of Amazon Household
Shared Prime Benefits
Amazon Household members can share an array of Prime benefits, including:
- Free Prime delivery
- Prime Video streaming access
- Free books with Prime Reading and Amazon First Reads
- Amazon photos and album sharing
- Early access to Lightning Deals

Additionally, digital content such as eBooks, audiobooks, apps, and games can be shared within the Household. While teens can shop on Prime, children do not have this capability.

Enhanced Shopping Experience for Teens
Teens in the Household can have their own Amazon login, allowing them to shop or stream content while using the payment methods of an adult in the Household. Adults have the ability to review and approve orders, ensuring a controlled shopping environment.

Parental Controls for Children
Adults can add children to a Household and manage parental controls on Fire tablets and Kindle e-readers through Kindle FreeTime. This feature allows adults to personalize each child's experience by selecting appropriate content and setting educational goals and time limits.

How to Set Up Amazon Household
Setting up an Amazon Household is simple:
1. Visit the Amazon Household page.
2. Choose Add Adult, Add a Teen, or Add a Child.
- For adults, send an email invite or sign up together to verify accounts.
- For teens, send an email invite, which they must accept to set up their login.
- No invite is necessary to add children.
3. Review content-sharing settings in the Family Library. You can check or uncheck the boxes to decide what content to share. These settings can be updated at any time.

Privacy and Content Visibility
- Adults: Cannot see each other's orders or content if using individual accounts.
- Teens: Adults can review and approve orders and set spending limits.
- Children: Adults can see and control the content viewed by children.

Cost of Amazon Household
Amazon Household is free to use and set up. Only one adult in the Household needs to have a Prime membership.

Using Amazon Household with Alexa
Once Amazon Household is set up, you can use Alexa commands such as:
- "Alexa, switch accounts."
- "Alexa, which account is this?"

With Alexa-enabled devices, you can also view Amazon Photos, hear notifications, make and receive Alexa calls and messages, and share shopping lists across all linked accounts.

How to Leave Amazon Household
To leave an Amazon Household:
1. Go to Manage Your Household.
2. Select Leave below your avatar name.

After leaving, only the primary Prime member retains the benefits, and you will lose access to shared content in the Family Library. Note that you cannot join a different Amazon Household for 180 days.

Amazon Household is a valuable feature that enhances the Prime membership experience by allowing families to share benefits and digital content. For sellers, this means a broader reach and potentially increased sales as more family members engage with Amazon's offerings. By making Prime benefits accessible to more users within a household, Amazon continues to innovate and provide value to its customers and sellers alike.
