Amazon introduces AI-generated review summaries to help customers shop faster and smarter
Amazon is using the latest advances in generative artificial intelligence to enhance its customers' shopping experience. The company announced that it has rolled out a new feature that automatically generates and presents summaries of customer reviews, helping shoppers quickly understand the overall sentiment and key highlights about products before purchasing.
The feature is now available on product detail pages to “a subset of mobile shoppers” in the U.S. across a range of products, and it may be expanded in the future. Customers can tap on pre-generated keywords for summaries of specific product attributes that matter most to them, such as ease of use, durability, or sound quality. The summaries use only verified purchases, ensuring that customers can easily understand the community’s opinions at a glance.
In an official blog, Vaughn Schermerhorn, Director, Community Shopping at Amazon said, “We want to make it even easier for customers to understand the common themes across reviews, and with the recent advancements in generative AI, we believe we have the technical means to address this long-standing customer need.” He added, “The new AI-powered feature provides a short paragraph right on the product detail page that highlights the product features and customer sentiment frequently mentioned across written reviews to help customers determine at a glance whether a product is right for them.”
Amazon says generative AI is transforming the tech industry and its own business.
Amazon says that generative artificial intelligence is one of the most exciting developments in the tech industry and that it is applying it to various aspects of its business. Some examples of Amazon's generative AI applications include StyleSnap, which lets customers upload a photo of an outfit they like and get similar product recommendations; Amazon Polly, which turns text into lifelike speech; and Amazon Personalize, which creates personalized recommendations for customers based on their preferences and behaviour.
Amazon's efforts to improve customer satisfaction and trust.
The new AI-generated review summaries are part of Amazon's efforts to improve customer satisfaction and trust, as well as to help customers make informed purchasing decisions. According to Amazon, customer reviews are one of the most important factors that influence customers' buying choices, and they also provide valuable feedback for sellers and manufacturers.
By using artificial intelligence to summarize the customer reviews, Amazon aims to make it easier for customers to find the information they need without having to read through hundreds or thousands of reviews. The company says that the summaries are not meant to replace the original reviews, but rather to complement them and provide a quick overview.
The company also says that it respects the privacy and authenticity of customer reviews, and that it does not modify or edit them in any way. The summaries are generated by an algorithm that analyzes the text and sentiment of the reviews, and then produces a concise summary that reflects the main points.
Amazon invites customers to try out the new feature and share their feedback with the company. The company says that it will continue to improve and expand the feature based on customer input and data.
