Amazon recently announced, via its Amazon UK Seller Central platform, a new offer granting free Value Added Tax (VAT) registration and two years of free VAT filing services for businesses selling in Ireland. The initiative, open until December 31, 2025, promises to streamline the compliance process for sellers planning to reach Irish customers. By waiving fees worth up to €1,900, the program creates an attractive path for sellers looking to maximize their presence in this expanding market.

Under this arrangement, any seller who hasn't already enabled inventory placement in the Ireland store or uploaded an Irish VAT number to Seller Central can apply for free VAT registration. In addition, participants are entitled to two years of free VAT filing services. This approach reduces the financial barriers that might otherwise prevent small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or new sellers from venturing into Ireland. To get started, sellers can visit the "Simplify your VAT and EPR Compliance" page in their Seller Central account and select one of Amazon's recommended tax providers.

The Irish market presents a promising avenue for Amazon sellers. Ireland enjoys a robust economy, and with Amazon's growing footprint in the region, it's an opportune time for businesses to expand. The upcoming launch of Amazon.ie in 2025 underscores the company's focus on building a localized shopping experience. Customers will be able to shop in euros without worrying about customs charges. With over 100 million products expected on the new platform, the Irish store aims to support local SMEs and draw a broader audience seeking quick, hassle-free online shopping.

An essential part of this expansion strategy is the local fulfilment network that Amazon has developed in Ireland. In 2022, the company opened its first fulfilment centre in Dublin. This facility created around 500 new jobs and enhanced delivery times for many Irish customers. With inventory kept closer to buyers, shipping can sometimes be completed within one day. This efficient infrastructure helps sellers meet the demands of Irish consumers and encourages more sellers to explore the benefits of a localized fulfilment system.

By integrating free VAT registration and filing services into the existing Seller Central platform, Amazon aims to simplify the transition into the Irish market. Sellers can conveniently manage their compliance requirements, track their earnings, and handle logistics from one centralized dashboard. This keeps things user-friendly and reduces the need for external tools or agencies. Plus, with the soon-to-be-launched Amazon.ie storefront, sellers will be well-positioned to gain direct access to Irish shoppers without additional hurdles.

Amazon's focus on expanding in Ireland—through free VAT registration, simplified compliance measures, and localized infrastructure—offers sellers a golden opportunity to grow. With the launch of Amazon.ie scheduled for 2025, businesses can capitalize on the upcoming fully localized shopping experience and reach an even wider audience.
