Amazon Introduces New Feature to Show ‘Sales Trend’ of Products
Amazon has added a new feature to its platform that shows how many customers recently bought a product. The feature, called “Sales Trend”, is based on the sales data of the products. The feature is displayed on eligible listings in certain categories, such as health and personal care, home and sports.
In an announcement on Seller Central platform, Amazon said, “Product listings for certain categories including health and personal care, home, and sports, will display a ‘sales trend’ that highlights how many customers recently purchased that product.”
It further added, “"Sales trend" is a new listing feature that provides a broad estimate of the number of customers who recently bought a particular product. For example, the listing might show "10K+ bought in the past month. "Sales Trend” is automatically added to eligible listings as like customer reviews, badges, and sales rank.
According to Amazon, the feature is designed to help customers find the most recent popular products on its platform. The feature shows the number of sales a product has made in recent times.
The feature is part of Amazon’s ongoing efforts to improve its customer experience and increase its market share. Amazon has been investing heavily in AI and machine learning technologies, and has been using them to enhance its products and services, such as its voice assistant Alexa, its recommendation system, and its delivery drones.
However, this new feature is not available for all products and categories. Amazon says that the feature is only added to products that meet certain criteria, such as having enough sales data, being in high demand, and having consistent availability. Amazon also says that the feature is subject to change or removal at any time, and that it does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the content.
The new feature has sparked mixed reactions among sellers as not everyone is happy with the new feature. Some sellers have expressed their concerns and dissatisfaction on Seller Central platfom and other online forums. They claim that the feature will create unfair competition among sellers, and expose their sales volume to their rivals. They also worry that the feature will affect their pricing strategies, and that it will encourage customers to buy only the best-selling products, ignoring the quality and value of other products.
