Amazon-Launches Multi-Channel Distribution Capability in AWD

By Staff Writer

Amazon has introduced a new multi-channel distribution (MCD) capability within its Amazon Warehousing & Distribution (AWD) platform, marking a significant enhancement for sellers utilizing its logistics services. This update offers a streamlined approach for sellers to distribute their inventory across multiple channels, including their own warehouses, third-party logistics providers, wholesalers, and distributors.

What is Amazon Warehousing & Distribution (AWD)?

Amazon Warehousing & Distribution provides a cost-effective bulk storage solution, allowing sellers to store their inventory in Amazon's distribution centers without facing capacity limits or additional fees for aged inventory. This service aims to simplify inventory management and reduce logistics costs for sellers.

How Multi-Channel Distribution Enhances Seller Flexibility?

The new MCD feature within AWD empowers sellers to ship their products in bulk to Amazon and other sales and distribution channels. This capability is designed to simplify the inventory inbounding process, enabling sellers to replenish inventory across various channels through a single, unified system.

Here's how sellers can benefit from the MCD capability:

Streamlined Logistics: Centralize your inventory management and distribution, reducing the complexity of handling multiple logistics partners.
Cost Efficiency: Leverage Amazon's logistics infrastructure to potentially lower shipping and storage costs.
Flexibility: Easily distribute inventory to a wide range of destinations, including non-Amazon channels, enhancing market reach and sales opportunities.

Getting Started with Multi-Channel Distribution

To utilize this new feature, sellers must first be enrolled in Amazon Warehousing and Distribution.
The process involves:

1. Enrollment: Visit the AWD homepage on Seller Central to learn about enrollment.
2. Channel and Destination Details: Provide your channel and destination details along with weekly forecast details by contacting your Account Manager or the AWD team directly.
3. Enrollment Confirmation: Await an email confirmation to confirm your enrollment in the program.
4. Placing an Order: Follow the steps on Seller Central to place a multi-channel distribution order.
5. Tracking: Monitor your orders through the AWD track shipments feature.

This initiative by Amazon underscores its commitment to providing sellers with flexible and efficient logistics solutions. Integrating multi-channel distribution within AWD is poised to significantly enhance how sellers manage and distribute their inventory, offering a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving e-commerce landscape.
