Amazon Leads Online Stores' Fight Against Counterfeiting

Online shoppers will soon have more confidence in the authenticity of the products they buy, thanks to a new initiative called 'Anti-Counterfeiting Exchange (ACX)' launched by Amazon and other major online retailers. The Anti-Counterfeiting Exchange (ACX) platform allows participating stores to share information about confirmed counterfeiters who tried to sell fake goods on their websites and take swift action against them.

ACX aims to make online shopping safer and more trustworthy for consumers, making it harder for counterfeiters to evade detection and enforcement. Counterfeiting is a global problem that harms consumers, legitimate sellers, and innovation. Fake products can pose health and safety risks, damage consumer trust, and undermine the investments of genuine brands.

"We want our customers to have confidence in their shopping experience and for brands to know they are protected from counterfeits," said Dharmesh Mehta, Vice President of Selling Partner Services, Amazon. He added that sharing information about confirmed counterfeiters is critical to help the entire industry stop these criminals earlier.

"By leading the way in creating an industry-wide solution to share information about known counterfeiters, we are excited to have helped improve the industry's collective ability to fight counterfeit crime, providing consumers and rights owners with greater peace of mind," He said in an official press release.

ACX is open to any store that meets certain criteria, such as having a strong anti-counterfeiting policy, a dedicated team to enforce it, and a proven track record of removing counterfeit listings.

Amazon and other ACX members have been testing the exchange, setting the appropriate standards and planning a way to expand it to more companies that want to stop counterfeiters. Data sharing among the private sector is vital to fight to counterfeit. Amazon welcomes other retailers and marketplace service providers to join ACX and work with the founding members to boost the industry's collective efforts against counterfeiters. Through ACX, counterfeiters and criminal organizations will know that the private sector is united against them and working to protect consumers and rights owners across the retail industry.

ACX is part of Amazon's broader efforts to protect its customers and sellers from counterfeiting. The company has invested over $700 million and employed over 10,000 people to ensure the authenticity of products sold on its platform. It has also launched programs such as Project Zero, Transparency, and Brand Registry to empower brands to protect their intellectual property rights.
