Amazon Listens to Seller Feedback, Implements Changes to Low-Inventory-Level Fee

Transition Period Extended, Exemptions for Low-Volume Products, and Prime Day

By Staff Writer

In a recent update on its Seller Central platform, Amazon announced several changes to its recently introduced Low-Inventory-Level Fee, aimed at addressing seller concerns and promoting healthy inventory levels. The company has extended the transition period for the new fee, providing sellers with additional time to familiarize themselves with the new system and avoid incurring charges.

Key Changes to the Low-Inventory-Level Fee:
1. Transition Period Extension
Amazon has extended the transition period for the Low-Inventory-Level Fee from April 30 to May 14, 2024. Any fees incurred between April 1 and May 14 will be credited back to sellers by May 31. This extension allows sellers more time to adjust their inventory management strategies and maintain sufficient stock levels.

2. Exemption for Low-Volume Products
Starting May 15, products that have sold less than 20 units in the past seven days will be exempt from the Low-Inventory-Level Fee. This change acknowledges the unpredictability in managing inventory levels for seasonal, end-of-life, and low-volume products with varying demand.

3. Credit for Excessive Inbound Delays
Low-Inventory-Level Fees incurred due to excessive inbounding and processing times caused by Amazon or Amazon-managed services will be credited back to sellers by the 15th day of the following month. This ensures that sellers are not penalized for delays beyond their control.

4. Prime Day Exception
To support sellers during the upcoming Prime Day 2024, Amazon will provide a time-bound exception on Low-Inventory-Level Fees for products included in Prime-exclusive Lightning Deals and Best Deals. The fee exception will apply for four weeks following Prime Day, acknowledging the potential unpredictability in inventory levels during this high-volume sales event.

Seller Impact and Action Required:
Sellers should take advantage of the extended transition period to review their inventory management practices and ensure they maintain sufficient stock levels to avoid incurring Low-Inventory-Level Fees. Amazon recommends using the FBA Inventory tool to track inventory health and identify products at risk of incurring fees. The FBA Revenue Calculator can be used to estimate potential fees for affected products, while the SKU Economics report provides historical charge data for each product.

Amazon's announcement demonstrates its commitment to listening to seller feedback and implementing changes to support their success. By extending the transition period, exempting low-volume products, crediting fees for excessive inbound delays, and providing a Prime Day exception, Amazon aims to help sellers navigate the new fee structure more effectively.

Sellers are encouraged to review the updated Low-Inventory-Level Fee information on Amazon's Seller Central and take necessary actions to maintain healthy inventory levels and minimize potential fees. With these changes, Amazon continues to work towards its goal of ensuring faster product delivery to customers through a well-managed, sufficiently stocked fulfillment network.
