Amazon has announced an update to its Product Bundling policy for consumables, affecting grocery, pet products, baby items, and health and beauty categories in its US store. This change is effective from October 14, 2024. Amazon says the new policy aims to enhance the quality of product bundles available for customers, ensuring they are sourced directly from original manufacturers. This means Amazon sellers must now strictly adhere to specific guidelines about how and what they bundle.

Key Changes in the Product Bundling Policy
Manufacturer Requirement: Only bundles created and offered by the original manufacturer can be listed. The manufacturer must be the brand owner for all items included in the bundle. This means sellers can no longer mix products from different manufacturers within a single bundle or list bundles under generic or personal brands.

Examples of Compliance: For instance, a seller can list a pre-packaged Frito-Lay Mixed Chips Pack but cannot create a custom bundle using different types of Frito-Lay snacks like Doritos and Cheetos. Additionally, unrelated items (e.g., kitchen utensils) cannot be bundled with consumables like chips.

Transition Period: Amazon will only enforce these changes on existing bundles late Q4 2024. Sellers will receive a 30-day notice via email and through their Account Health dashboard if any of their bundles are found to be non-compliant.

Why This Matters for Sellers
Compliance is essential for success on Amazon. According to recent data, over 35% of suspended listings in 2023 were related to policy non-compliance, highlighting how crucial it is for sellers to stay updated on platform policies. For consumables, Amazon focuses on consumer trust—ensuring only high-quality, brand-authentic bundles are available for customers, reducing the risk of counterfeit or mismatched products that erode buyer confidence.

Seller Takeaway
The key takeaway for Amazon sellers is the need to ensure that any bundled products comply with these stricter rules. Sellers should carefully review their current listings and remove or modify any bundles that do not adhere to the new guidelines. In the future, only bundles pre-packaged by the original manufacturer will be permitted for listing.

In conclusion, the updated Product Bundling policy from Amazon, announced on Seller Central, aims to ensure product authenticity and consistency in the marketplace. Sellers are encouraged to adapt their listings accordingly and prepare for enforcement in late Q4 2024. Staying informed and compliant with Amazon’s evolving guidelines is crucial for maintaining successful listings and avoiding disruptions to business operations.
