Amazon Slashes MCF Reimbursement to $300
Amazon announced on June 16, 2023, that it will cap reimbursements for MCF fulfillment losses at $300 per eligible unit. This change in policy will come into effect starting on July 15, 2023. Amazon advised sellers to buy third-party insurance for items valued at over $300.
MCF (Multi-Channel Fulfillment) is a program that lets sellers use Amazon's FBA fulfilment service to fulfil off-Amazon orders. Under the current reimbursement policy, Amazon reimburses sellers for the full value of lost or damaged units up to $1,000 per eligible unit. However, the new policy will cap reimbursements at $300 per eligible unit.
Amazon said the change is being made to "align with the broader industry standard for reimbursements for lost or damaged goods." Sellers who are concerned about the change can purchase third-party insurance to cover the cost of lost or damaged units that exceed the $300 reimbursement cap. There are a number of different insurance providers that offer coverage for MCF inventory, so sellers should shop around to find the best policy for their needs.
The change to Amazon's MCF reimbursement policy is likely to have a significant impact on sellers who sell high-value items. For example, a seller who sells a $1,000 TV would only be reimbursed $300 if the TV was lost or damaged during the fulfilment process under the new policy. This could represent a significant financial loss for the seller.
Sellers who are concerned about the change should carefully consider their options. They may want to consider purchasing third-party insurance, or they may want to reconsider using MCF to fulfil off-Amazon orders.
