DAC7 Tax Reporting a Must for Amazon EU Sellers

DAC7 Tax Reporting a Must for Amazon EU Sellers

Amazon has informed EU sellers about a new reporting requirement that will come into effect this year. The requirement is part of the Directive on Administrative Cooperation—7th amendment (DAC7), which aims to improve tax transparency and cooperation among EU member states.

According to the announcement, EU sellers who are an EU resident and generate €2,000 or more in sales or complete 30 or more transactions in the current calendar year will have to provide information such as their name, address, tax identification number, and the amount and type of income derived from Amazon's platform. The deadline for providing this information is October 1, 2023.

Amazon said that it will collect and report this information to the relevant tax authorities in accordance with DAC7. It also advised sellers to consult their tax advisors if they have any questions or doubts about their tax obligations.

DAC7 is a new EU directive that extends the tax transparency rules to digital platforms and introduces an obligation for platform operators to provide information on income derived by sellers through platforms, as from 2023 onwards. The information collected will be shared with the tax authorities of the member states where the sellers are resident or active.

The directive aims to ensure a fair and effective taxation of the digital economy and to prevent tax evasion and avoidance. It also seeks to reduce the administrative burden and compliance costs for both platforms and sellers by creating a harmonized and standardized reporting framework across the EU.
