eBay Launches New AI-Powered 'Magical' Listing Tool to Make Selling Easier and Faster

eBay has announced the launch of a new listing tool that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to generate details from images. The tool, which the company claims to be 'Magical', aims to make selling on eBay faster, easier, and more accurate by filling in titles, descriptions, and other information from a simple photo.

eBay announced this in an official blog writing: ‘Magical’ Listing Tool Harnesses the Power of AI to Make Selling on eBay Faster, Easier, and More Accurate.

eBay states that the new listing tool is based on generative AI, which is a type of AI that can analyze, research, and extrapolate information from a small amount of data provided by the user. In this case, the user only needs to upload a photo of the item they want to sell in the eBay app, and the tool will automatically write a title, a description, and add vital information such as category, condition, price, and shipping options.

The tool helps sellers list items with ease, as they do not need to type or search for information manually. It also helps buyers access more information about potential purchases, as the tool generates detailed, accurate, and in-depth listings that match their queries.

The company claims that as of late July, nearly 30% of U.S. sellers using the app on any given day tried the feature at least once, and over 95% of those who tried it opted to use the AI-generated descriptions for their listings, including a few with minor edits. The customer satisfaction (CSAT) for this experience is over 80%, which is among the highest CSAT for recent feature launches by eBay.

The tool is powered by eBay's large-scale yet extensible AI infrastructure that integrates Azure's OpenAI technologies into the marketplace. eBay has been investing in AI technologies such as machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and machine translation to create inspiring ecommerce experiences for its customers.

eBay's new listing tool is currently available in the US for select categories such as fashion, electronics, home and garden, and collectibles. eBay plans to expand the tool to more categories and markets in the future.

The company says that the new tool is the latest one in a series of efforts to use AI to make selling and buying on eBay easy, fun and magical. With the improvement of AI eBay will incorporate more cutting-edge technologies across its teams with the goal of making your eBay experience consistently more ‘magical’.
