eBay Names Naini as Emerging Markets GM

eBay, the global ecommerce giant, has announced the appointment of Vidmay Naini as its new general manager for global emerging markets. Naini will oversee the company’s growth strategy and operations in Southeast Asia, India, Eastern Europe, Israel, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

Naini is a veteran of eBay, having joined the company in 2005. He has held various leadership roles within the organization, including leading the Southeast Asia and India business since 2018. He has also been instrumental in forging strategic partnerships and investments in the region, such as eBay’s stake in Flipkart, India’s largest online marketplace.

In a press release, Naini said: “I am delighted to step into this global role. There is a significant opportunity to scale up eBay’s mission of empowering people and creating economic opportunity for all by expanding our efforts across these regions. The digital economy is exponentially growing in these markets, with small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) propelling its growth. Global ecommerce platforms such as eBay can revolutionize export opportunities and expand the reach these businesses can achieve. Through our global marketplace, my team and I look forward to establishing and enhancing the retail exports ecosystem for businesses to grow and reach consumers across the world.”

According to eBay, its global emerging markets have high potential for ecommerce export growth as they mature and develop. The company cited its 2022 Southeast Asia Small Online Business Trade Report, which found that 99% of all SMBs on eBay currently export items to an average of 25 different international markets on an annual basis. In Southeast Asia in particular, 68% of “eBay-enabled SMBs” in six countries - Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore - export to 10 or more international markets.

eBay said it will continue to invest in technology, infrastructure and services to support its sellers and buyers in these markets. The company also said it will leverage its global network of 134 million active buyers and 19 million active sellers to create more opportunities for cross-border trade and commerce.
