eBay UK and the BFC Launch £100,000 Fund to Invest in Circular Fashion Solutions

eBay UK, the leading online marketplace, has officially unveiled the second edition of the Circular Fashion Innovator's Fund in collaboration with the British Fashion Council (BFC). This initiative is geared towards aiding small businesses, social enterprises, and charities that are pioneering innovative solutions in circular fashion. The fund's primary objective is to bolster sustainability in the fashion industry by supporting groundbreaking technologies and services aimed at reducing waste and extending the life cycle of clothing.

The Circular Fashion Innovator's Fund will provide up to six grants, each amounting to £25,000, with applications being accepted until Friday, October 20, 2023. A distinguished panel of experts from both the fashion and sustainability sectors, comprising Jane Shepherdson CBE, Joe Metcalf, Hugo Adams, Amy Bannerman, and Kirsty Keoghan, will evaluate the applicants. In addition to the financial support, the selected winners will also receive invaluable mentoring, networking opportunities, and increased exposure in the fashion industry.

eBay's commitment to fostering and expanding the circular fashion economy is at the forefront of this initiative. This renewed effort comes as the demand for secondhand and pre-loved fashion items continues to surge on eBay's platform, reinforcing the company's dedication to propelling the fashion circular economy forward.

eBay's ongoing support for the acceleration and growth of the circular fashion economy underscores its dedication to sustainable and environmentally-conscious practices in the fashion industry.

In an official press release, eBay’s Global GM of Fashion, Kirsty Keoghan, said, “The UK fashion industry is at the forefront of innovation driving to make circularity the future of fashion. At eBay, we’ve seen first hand that start-ups and small businesses are a significant driving force behind this ambition for change. Following the hugely successful first year of the Fund, we’re committed to identifying and scaling more UK businesses to help make the change we all want to see.”

Caroline Rush, CEO at the British Fashion Council, said: “We are excited to announce our renewed partnership with eBay after a successful first year. We aim to support and assist businesses in preparing for positive change by embracing innovation, which is fundamental to our mission. We firmly believe that everyone has a role to play in building a brighter future for the fashion industry and aiding the growth of companies that are accelerating the circular economy in fashion is key to this. We look forward to continuing to champion the remarkable advances which are being made in the industry.”
