In a move aimed at enhancing customer convenience and expanding shopping choices, Amazon has launched an innovative feature called 'Buy for Me'. This new beta feature allows Amazon customers to find and purchase products directly from other brands' websites if the items are not sold directly through Amazon. This initiative, currently available to select customers in the U.S., leverages advanced agentic AI capabilities to streamline the shopping experience, according to an official Amazon blog announcement.

How the 'Buy for Me' Feature Works
Amazon’s 'Buy for Me' integrates seamlessly into the existing Amazon Shopping app on both iOS and Android devices. When users search for products, the app now provides results not only from Amazon and third-party sellers but also includes additional relevant items from external brand stores. These external options appear clearly labeled as 'Shop brand sites directly'.

To use the feature, customers simply tap on an item labeled 'Buy for Me' from these additional results. They are then taken to a familiar product detail page within Amazon's app, displaying comprehensive product information similar to items traditionally sold on Amazon. If the customer decides to purchase, they tap the 'Buy for Me' button, prompting Amazon’s AI agent to securely handle the purchase directly from the brand’s website.

Oliver Messenger, Amazon's shopping director, emphasized the customer-centric vision behind this new tool: "We’re always working to invent new ways to make shopping even more convenient. We've created Buy For Me to help customers quickly and easily find and buy products from other brand stores if we don’t currently sell those items in our store."

Seamless and Secure Shopping Experience
Once the customer confirms the purchase, Amazon’s agentic AI securely completes the transaction using encrypted personal information. Customers subsequently receive an order confirmation email from the external retailer, with Amazon providing order tracking directly through the Amazon app under the 'Buy for Me Orders' tab. However, delivery, returns, exchanges, and customer support remain the responsibility of the external brand store, ensuring clear and direct communication.

Advanced AI Integration Enhances Shopping
'Buy for Me' operates using Amazon Bedrock, which hosts advanced foundation models like Amazon Nova and Anthropic’s Claude. These AI models enable the entire purchasing process—from discovery to checkout—to occur smoothly and with minimal user intervention, while prioritizing transparency and trust.

Brands participating in this initiative benefit from enhanced visibility, improved customer engagement, and increased sales opportunities. They retain full control over their involvement in the program, allowing flexibility in brand exposure.

Future Plans and Expansion
Currently, 'Buy for Me' is in the beta stage and only available to a limited number of users and brands. Amazon plans to gradually roll out the feature to additional customers and expand the number of brands involved based on user feedback and overall effectiveness.

The introduction of 'Buy for Me' marks Amazon's continued commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, promising a more diverse and convenient shopping experience. By leveraging sophisticated AI technology, Amazon aims not only to simplify the buying process but also to build stronger connections between customers and an extensive range of brands.
