Amazon has recently updated its Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) policy to include a seasonal restriction on meltable products. As part of its commitment to maintaining product quality standards, Amazon will not accept heat-sensitive items at its fulfillment centers from April 15 to October 15, 2024. This move is designed to prevent the risk of such items melting during the warmer months, which can lead to a negative customer experience.
In a Seller Central update, Amazon said, "To meet product quality standards, we won't accept meltable inventory at our fulfillment centers between April 15 and October 15, 2024".
Meltable products are defined as items that are susceptible to melting in higher temperatures, including chocolate, gummies, and certain jelly- and wax-based products. These items must be able to withstand temperatures ranging from 75 to 155 degrees Fahrenheit if they are to be stored in Amazon's fulfillment centers during the summer.
Sellers with meltable inventory stored at Amazon's fulfillment centers after April 14, 2024, will face disposal of their products for a fee. To avoid these fees, sellers have two options: submit a removal order for their inventory or attempt to sell off their stock before the April 15 deadline by running sales.

For those who believe their products have been incorrectly classified as meltable, Amazon provides a process to request an exemption. Sellers must submit a letter from the manufacturer to Amazon's Selling Partner Support confirming that the product can endure the specified temperature range without melting.
Amazon's Seller Central platform offers tools to help sellers identify whether their products fall into the meltable category, such as the Seller Assistant App. Additionally, sellers can download a list of ASINs classified as meltable to manage their inventory better.
Sellers are advised to plan their inventory accordingly, taking advantage of the full window for meltable product sales between October 16 and April 14. Strategies such as increasing sales velocity through promotions or boosting advertising budgets can help liquidate meltable items before the restriction period begins.
In summary, Amazon FBA sellers dealing with meltable products must take action to either remove their inventory or increase sales before April 15, 2024, to avoid incurring disposal fees. Proper planning and utilization of Amazon's tools and resources can help sellers navigate this seasonal restriction successfully.
