Amazon.ca has announced a new measure aimed at enhancing the efficiency of its fulfillment centers by automating the removal of aged inventory. Sellers who store their products in Amazon's fulfillment centers are now given the option to manage their aged inventory before the policy takes effect on April 13.

Understanding Aged Inventory and Its Impact
Aged inventory is defined as items that have been housed in an Amazon fulfillment center for over 365 days. The accumulation of such inventory can lead to storage constraints and affect the overall performance metrics of the fulfillment network. As a result, Amazon is taking steps to encourage sellers to either sell, remove, or otherwise deal with their aged inventory.

Automated Removal to Streamline Operations
To facilitate a more dynamic inventory flow, Amazon.ca will start automating the removal process for inventory that exceeds the one-year threshold. This initiative is designed to help sellers avoid incurring additional surcharges related to aged inventory and to improve their Inventory Performance Index (IPI) score potentially. This important metric influences storage limits and the overall health of a seller's account.

How Sellers Can Manage Their Aged Inventory
Sellers are advised to visit the Automated Fulfillable Inventory settings section in their account to make their preferences known. They can choose to have the aged inventory returned to them by selecting 'Return' and providing a valid return address. Failing to provide an address will result in the inventory being donated, recycled, or otherwise disposed of by Amazon.

Option to Opt-Out and Important Considerations
For those sellers who prefer to handle aged inventory themselves, there is an option to 'Disable' the automated removal process. However, it's crucial to note that once an automated removal has been initiated, it cannot be canceled. Sellers must act promptly to update their preferences before the April 13 deadline to retain control over their aged inventory.

Notifications and Tools for Sellers
Amazon.ca will communicate with sellers who have aged inventory via email and through notifications in Seller Central. These communications will provide reminders and updates regarding the upcoming automated removals. Sellers are encouraged to regularly review their inventory age and make any necessary changes to their removal settings to stay ahead of the new policy.

Final Thoughts for Amazon.ca Sellers
With the new automated removal process, Amazon.ca aims to create a more efficient and responsive fulfillment environment that benefits both sellers and customers. Sellers are encouraged to act swiftly to determine the most suitable course of action for their aged inventory to maintain compliance with Amazon's policies and to optimize their business operations on the platform.
