Amazon Enforces New Battery Compliance Rules for FBM Listings

In an important move to ensure customer safety and accurate product details, Amazon announced on Seller Central that starting July 28, 2025, sellers using Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) will need to complete battery compliance questions when listing or updating battery-operated products.

What Sellers Need to Know
When creating or editing FBM listings, sellers will encounter a mandatory question: "Are batteries required?" If the answer is "yes," two additional questions will appear:
* "Are batteries included?"
* "What is the battery cell composition?"
Battery cell composition refers to types such as alkaline or lithium-ion. Sellers can find this information on the battery itself, the manufacturer's label, or the product packaging. If the battery type isn't listed in Amazon’s provided options, sellers can select "other than listed" and manually input the battery composition.

Avoid Listing Deactivation
Amazon emphasizes that providing accurate answers is critical. Incorrect information may lead to listing deactivation, affecting sales and account health. Therefore, sellers should carefully verify battery details before submission.
Importance of Battery Compliance
This compliance update is part of Amazon’s ongoing efforts to ensure safe and reliable product experiences. Accurate battery information helps Amazon properly classify products under dangerous goods (hazmat) guidelines, ensuring safe handling, storage, and delivery.
For detailed guidelines and further assistance, sellers are encouraged to visit Amazon’s "Dangerous goods required information and documentation (hazmat)" section available on Seller Central.
To smoothly adapt to these changes, sellers are advised to:
* Check existing listings to ensure battery details are accurate.
* Update internal processes for listing creation.
* Train team members about the new compliance requirements.
By proactively addressing these requirements, sellers can continue to offer battery-powered products seamlessly on Amazon.
In conclusion, this compliance update reflects Amazon’s commitment to safety and transparency, creating a more trustworthy marketplace for both sellers and customers alike.
