Amazon has announced six new visual search features to simplify and enhance the shopping experience. These updates, shared in an official blog by Amazon's Director of Visual Search and Search, Mita Mahadevan, are designed to help shoppers quickly and precisely find products within Amazon's extensive catalogue.

"We continue to innovate in visual search to help customers quickly and easily find and discover the products they want and need," said Mahadevan in the official Amazon blog. According to Amazon, there has been a remarkable 70% increase year over year in visual searches worldwide, highlighting the growing popularity and effectiveness of these visual search tools.



Here's a simple guide to help you make the most of these new features:

Visual Suggestions
Amazon now displays visual suggestions when you type in a product description. For instance, typing "flannel shirt" will show you several image suggestions to help you instantly choose your desired product style. This intuitive approach significantly shortens your search time.

Add Text to Image Searches
If you upload a picture using Amazon Lens, you can add descriptive text to refine your search further. For example, if you upload an image of a beige sofa, you can specify the brand, colour, material, or dimensions. Amazon will show you products that closely match your combined image and text inputs.

Search Directly from Your Lock Screen
Amazon Lens Camera Search is now accessible right from your iPhone's lock screen. Just add the Amazon Lens widget to your lock screen for instant real-world product searches. Mahadevan suggests pairing this with Amazon's existing Search and Orders widgets for the ultimate lock-screen shopping hub, enabling you to search for products, access orders, and track deliveries without unlocking your phone.

"More Like This" Feature
Shoppers now have the option to tap "More Like This" on product images they like in search results. This feature helps you quickly find products similar in style or design, making shopping faster and more personalized.

Videos Within Search Results
Amazon has introduced videos directly within search results for categories such as home items, appliances, electronics, and toys. Customers can preview products through informative videos without opening individual product pages, ensuring a seamless browsing experience.

Circle to Search
If a particular item within an image catches your eye, you can now quickly isolate it using Amazon's new circle feature. By uploading an image to Amazon Lens and drawing a circle around the item, shoppers can precisely search for that specific product. This feature lets you resize and reposition the selection box for greater accuracy.

Advice for Amazon Sellers
To benefit fully from these visual search improvements, Amazon sellers should enhance their listings with clear, high-quality images and videos. Providing detailed, accurate product descriptions and key attributes (such as color, material, dimensions, and brand) will also increase visibility and improve the likelihood of appearing prominently in search results.

These enhancements are part of Amazon's ongoing commitment to intuitive and user-friendly online shopping. Recently, Amazon also introduced Rufus, a generative AI-powered shopping assistant, and AI-generated product reviews and descriptions.
