Amazon India is significantly expanding its welfare and logistics support infrastructure for delivery associates with plans to scale its Ashray rest centre network to 250 locations across India by the end of 2026. The company shared the details in an official blog announcement, highlighting its growing focus on associate well-being, last-mile logistics efficiency, and operational support across India’s ecommerce ecosystem.

The expansion comes at a time when ecommerce fulfillment networks are handling rising order volumes across metros and smaller cities. For delivery associates working long hours in difficult weather conditions, access to clean and comfortable rest facilities is becoming increasingly important.

Amazon said it will operationalize 50 new Ashray centres by the end of May 2026, expanding beyond its existing network of 100 centres spread across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and several other cities.

Mobile Ashray Vans Introduced in Delhi-NCR
In a major addition to the initiative, Amazon has also launched mobile Ashray vans in Delhi-NCR. These air-conditioned vans are stationed at high-footfall delivery zones, allowing delivery associates to rest, hydrate, and recharge devices without travelling to fixed locations.

The mobile units include air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, Wi-Fi connectivity, and mobile charging points. According to Amazon, hundreds of delivery associates have already used these vans within days of launch.

The company said the facilities remain free and open to all delivery workers, regardless of whether they work for Amazon or another logistics platform.

Salim R Memon, Director Operations, Amazon India, said:
"The health, safety, and well-being of associates across our operations network are a topmost priority for us. Ashray was built on a simple idea—that every delivery associate, whether they deliver for Amazon or not, deserves a clean, cool place to rest during their workday. Scaling to 250 centres and taking these facilities directly to delivery associates through our mobile units is a reflection of that commitment. This is also part of our broader investment of over ₹2,800 crore to strengthen associate safety, health, and well-being across our operations network."

How Project Ashray Started
Project Ashray was first launched in 2024 with an initial centre in Gurugram. Amazon later expanded the model to Bengaluru and Mumbai before rapidly scaling the network nationwide.

Each centre can accommodate up to 15 people at a time and allows delivery associates to take breaks for up to 30 minutes. Facilities include washrooms, first-aid kits, mobile charging stations, parking spaces, and air-conditioned seating areas.

The centres operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and are generally located near petrol pumps and commercial hubs to support last-mile delivery workers during peak operations.

Amazon has also added Ashray locations to Google Maps to improve accessibility.

Delivery Associates Share Experiences
Amazon’s official blog also included feedback from delivery associates using the centres.
"When we are out for delivery, it is hot, we get tired, and the mobile charge runs out. Either we have to go back home or find a place to charge phones, it gets difficult. With the centre, using washroom, having water, taking breaks and charging phones has become easier," said Adarsh, a delivery partner from Mumbai.

Another delivery associate, Fayaz, added:
"We have got a place to take food breaks. We have washroom facilities here as well. We used to face a lot of problems during rains which will reduce now. I want to thank Amazon for this. I hope Amazon will keep providing such facilities in the future too. Delivery associates are getting a lot of help from this place."

Partnerships Fueling Expansion
Amazon said its partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited has played a key role in scaling the initiative. In August 2025, the two companies launched 40 Ashray centres together across India.

The ecommerce giant is also working with organizations such as Udyasa Foundation and READ India to establish additional facilities.

Why This Matters for Ecommerce Businesses
The expansion of Ashray highlights how large ecommerce companies are increasingly investing in supply chain management and workforce infrastructure to strengthen delivery efficiency.

For Amazon sellers, DTC brands, ecommerce fulfillment operators, and businesses using services like Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment, stronger delivery infrastructure can contribute to smoother last-mile operations and improved customer experiences.

The initiative also reflects the growing competition among ecommerce and logistics companies to improve delivery partner support as order volumes continue rising across India.

Key Takeaways
• Amazon plans to expand Ashray rest centres to 250 locations across India by the end of 2026.
• The company has introduced mobile Ashray vans in Delhi-NCR with Wi-Fi, drinking water, charging stations, and air-conditioned seating.
• Ashray facilities are free and open to all delivery associates, including non-Amazon workers.
• The initiative is part of Amazon India’s broader ₹2,800 crore investment in associate safety, health, and operational support.

Amazon’s decision to scale Project Ashray reflects a broader shift in India’s ecommerce and logistics sector, where delivery infrastructure is becoming as important as technology and fulfillment speed. For sellers, brands, and ecommerce businesses relying on efficient last-mile delivery, such investments could support more reliable operations and better long-term supply chain performance across India.
