Amazon has opened a new chapter in its logistics business by launching Amazon Supply Chain Services, a broader offering that allows businesses of different sizes and sectors to use the company’s vast logistics network.
Amazon shared the details in an official blog titled “Introducing Amazon Supply Chain Services: Amazon’s logistics network, now open to every business.” The company said the new service will give businesses access to its freight, distribution, fulfillment and parcel shipping capabilities, even if they are not Amazon sellers.
Amazon takes its logistics model beyond sellers
For nearly three decades, Amazon has built a delivery and supply chain system around speed, reliability and scale. The company said this network was developed first to support its own retail business, much like Amazon Web Services was originally built to support Amazon’s internal technology needs before being offered to outside customers.
Now, Amazon wants to take a similar approach with supply chain services. Through Amazon Supply Chain Services, or ASCS, businesses in retail, healthcare, automotive, manufacturing and other sectors can use Amazon’s logistics capabilities.
“Amazon is bringing the infrastructure, intelligence, and scale of its supply chain services—proven over decades—to businesses everywhere, much like Amazon Web Services did for cloud computing,” said Peter Larsen, vice president of Amazon Supply Chain Services.

What ASCS offers to businesses
Amazon said ASCS will allow companies to choose services based on their needs. These include freight movement, inventory storage, fulfillment, distribution and parcel delivery.
The freight service covers ocean, air, ground and rail movement. It includes customs clearance, booking support and shipment visibility. This can help companies move products from factories, ports and warehouses with fewer operational complications.
The distribution and fulfillment service allows businesses to store inventory in Amazon’s network and position products closer to customer demand. Amazon said this can help businesses fulfill orders across their own websites, marketplaces, social media channels and physical stores.
The parcel shipping service offers two-to-five-day delivery speeds and seven-day-a-week operations. Businesses can use the service for orders placed outside Amazon as well.
Snapshots
-Amazon Supply Chain Services is open to businesses beyond Amazon sellers.
-The service includes freight, distribution, fulfillment and parcel shipping.
-Companies can use Amazon’s network for orders across multiple sales channels.
-Amazon said businesses can access ASCS through a centralized console.
Sellers helped prove the model
Amazon’s logistics expansion is built on years of experience with independent sellers. Since 2006, sellers have shipped more than 80 billion units using Fulfillment by Amazon.
According to Amazon, sellers using its end-to-end supply chain solutions see nearly 20 percent higher sales. This helped the company build confidence that its logistics network could serve a wider market.
“Amazon has added value at every stage of our supply chain from cross-border logistics to warehouse storage and parcel shipping,” said Todd Bairstow, founder of Finer Form. “We’ve been able to save money, eliminate operational complexity, and it’s given us more time to focus on what matters: building our brand.”
Major brands already using the services
Amazon said companies such as Procter & Gamble, 3M, Lands’ End and American Eagle Outfitters are already using parts of its supply chain network.
Procter & Gamble is using Amazon’s freight services to transport raw materials and finished goods. 3M is using the service to move products from manufacturing sites to distribution centers. Lands’ End is using a unified inventory pool to fulfill orders across channels, while American Eagle Outfitters is using Amazon’s parcel shipping network for customer deliveries.
Andrew McLean, CEO of Lands’ End, said the service will help the company position inventory closer to customers and reach them faster.
The service may be useful for retailers and manufacturers looking for faster delivery, better inventory placement and fewer supply chain partners.
Amazon Supply Chain Services marks a significant move in the company’s effort to turn its logistics network into a broader business platform. For sellers, retailers and manufacturers, the launch could simplify supply chain operations by bringing freight, storage, fulfillment and delivery under one system. While the real impact will depend on cost, reliability and adoption, Amazon’s move signals a stronger push into the global logistics services market.
