Amazon Launches Generative AI Capabilities to Simplify and Improve Product Descriptions
Amazon has launched a new set of generative AI capabilities that will help sellers write more captivating and thorough product descriptions, titles, and listing details. The new technology will simplify the listing creation and management process for sellers, as well as improve the shopping experience for customers.
Generative AI is a type of machine learning that can create content such as text, images, and audio from scratch. Amazon is using large language models (LLMs), which are trained on massive amounts of data, to generate high-quality product information based on a brief description provided by the seller.

Sellers can use the new generative AI capabilities to create more comprehensive product listings with less effort and time. They only need to enter a few words or sentences about the product, and Amazon will automatically generate content for their review. They can then submit the generated content to the Amazon catalog or edit it if they wish.
The new technology will also benefit customers, who will find more complete, consistent, and engaging product information on Amazon. This will help them make more informed and confident purchase decisions.

Amazon announced the new generative AI capabilities at Accelerate 2023, its annual seller conference. The company has been testing the new technology with some sellers for the past few months, and received positive feedback. Most of the sellers who tried the new technology used the generated content directly without any changes.
In an official blog, Robert Tekiela,VP of Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems said, “With our new generative AI models, we can infer, improve, and enrich product knowledge at an unprecedented scale and with dramatic improvement in quality, performance, and efficiency. Our models learn to infer product information through the diverse sources of information, latent knowledge, and logical reasoning that they learn. For example, they can infer a table is round if specifications list a diameter or infer the collar style of a shirt from its image.”
Mary Beth Westmoreland, Vice President, Worldwide Selling Partner Experience of the company said, ''Many sellers have tested Amazon’s latest AI offerings throughout the past few months, and early feedback indicates that the majority of those sellers are directly using the listing content the AI model creates for them.''
How to get started with the new AI capabilities:
To get started with the new AI capabilities, sellers need to go to the Amazon Seller Central website and select the "Listings" tab. From there, they can click on the "Product Description" button and select the "Generate Product Description" option.
Sellers will then be prompted to provide a brief description of the product. Once they have done so, Amazon's AI will generate a more comprehensive description. Sellers can then review the generated description and make any necessary changes.
The new AI capabilities are a powerful tool that can help sellers save time and create more effective product listings. They are currently available to all sellers in the United States and are expected to be rolled out to other countries in the future.
