Amazon to remove irrelevant variation themes from September 2

Amazon has announced through Seller Central that it will begin removing unused and irrelevant variation themes from its product templates starting September 2, 2025. The removal process will continue until November 30, 2025. This move is aimed at simplifying the listing process for sellers and ensuring that only relevant variation options are available for customers.
Impact on existing listings
Amazon has already marked the affected variation themes as Deprecated: Do Not Use in the Variation Theme Name field of product templates. Sellers attempting to update listings with these deprecated themes will encounter an error message stating that the value specified is invalid, which means the update will not go through.

Steps for sellers to update listings
To ensure smooth transitions, Amazon has advised sellers to follow these steps for listings impacted by deprecated themes:
1. Go to Manage Inventory and delete the existing parent ASIN.
2. Remove Parentage Level, Child Relationship Type, Parent SKU, and Variation Theme Name attributes from the child ASINs.
3. Create a new parent ASIN using one of the supported variation themes.
4. Reassign the relevant child ASINs to the new parent ASIN.
If sellers do not take action, the child ASINs tied to deprecated themes will continue to remain active as stand-alone listings. This ensures that customers can still purchase the products, but sellers will lose the advantage of parent-child grouping.
The decision is part of Amazon’s ongoing effort to streamline catalog management and reduce confusion for both sellers and buyers. By removing unused and less relevant variation themes, Amazon aims to improve the customer shopping experience and make product listings more consistent.
Amazon has provided resources within Seller Central, including the Variation relationship FAQ and a detailed list of variation themes planned for removal. Sellers are encouraged to review these resources promptly to avoid disruptions to their listings.
With the changes starting September 2, sellers are advised to act early and shift to supported variation themes to keep their listings active and organized. The update, announced on Seller Central, underscores Amazon’s focus on simplifying catalog management while ensuring customers have a clearer and more reliable shopping experience.
