Amazon Sets 90% Business Hour Delivery Requirement For Seller-Fulfilled Orders In US Store

Businesses expect deliveries to arrive when someone is available to receive them. To improve the delivery experience for Amazon Business customers, Amazon is introducing a new Business Hour Delivery Rate requirement for seller-fulfilled shipments in its US marketplace. The update, published on Seller Central, gives sellers several months to review their performance and make operational improvements before enforcement begins.

The new policy is aimed at reducing missed deliveries, minimizing re-delivery attempts, and ensuring business customers receive shipments during their operating hours. Sellers who regularly fulfill their own orders should review the new requirement now, as it could directly affect the visibility of their offers to Amazon Business buyers later this year.

What Is Changing?
According to the announcement on Seller Central, beginning September 30, 2026, sellers will be required to maintain a Business Hour Delivery Rate of at least 90 percent for seller-fulfilled shipments delivered to Amazon Business customers in the US store.

The Business Hour Delivery Rate is an existing Account Health metric that measures the percentage of seller-fulfilled shipments delivered during a business customer's operating hours. Amazon calculates the metric over a rolling 14-day period, allowing sellers to continuously monitor their recent performance.

What Happens If Sellers Fall Below The Requirement?
Amazon has outlined a phased enforcement process to give sellers time to improve.

i) If a seller's Business Hour Delivery Rate is below 90 percent on September 30, Amazon will notify the seller through Seller Central and provide recommendations to help improve performance.

ii) If the metric remains below the required threshold by October 30, 2026, Amazon may deactivate the seller's seller-fulfilled offers for Amazon Business customers.

iii) Importantly, the company clarified that this requirement will not affect Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) offers or Amazon Retail offers. The restriction applies only to seller-fulfilled listings available to Amazon Business customers.

Why This Metric Matters
Business customers often operate during fixed working hours and may not have staff available to receive deliveries outside those times. Failed delivery attempts can lead to delays, additional transportation costs, customer dissatisfaction, and more operational complexity.

By introducing this requirement, Amazon aims to improve delivery reliability while helping businesses receive packages securely and efficiently during normal operating hours.

How Sellers Can Improve Their Business Hour Delivery Rate
Amazon recommends working with dependable shipping carriers that can consistently deliver during business operating hours.

The company also encourages sellers to configure accurate handling times and realistic transit times so customer delivery promises better reflect actual shipping performance.

In addition, Amazon highlighted three Seller Central tools that can help sellers meet the requirement more consistently:

i) Automated Handling Time, which adjusts handling times based on historical fulfillment performance.

ii) Shipping Settings Automation, which automatically optimizes shipping configurations and delivery promises.

iii) Amazon Buy Shipping, which allows sellers to purchase shipping labels through Amazon's approved carrier network.

According to Amazon, shipments fulfilled using all three of these tools are guaranteed to meet the Business Hour Delivery Rate requirement, providing sellers with a straightforward way to stay compliant.

Where Sellers Can Monitor Performance
Sellers can review their Business Hour Delivery Rate at any time by visiting the Account Health dashboard in Seller Central.

Monitoring the metric regularly before the September enforcement date can help identify potential issues early and reduce the risk of future restrictions.

What Sellers Should Do Now
Although enforcement does not begin until September 30, sellers should use the transition period to evaluate their shipping operations. Reviewing carrier performance, updating shipping templates, verifying handling times, and adopting Amazon's automation tools can help improve delivery reliability well before the new requirement becomes mandatory.

Sellers serving a significant number of Amazon Business customers may particularly benefit from proactive planning, as maintaining compliance will help preserve access to this important customer segment.

The new Business Hour Delivery Rate requirement reflects Amazon's continued focus on improving delivery quality for business buyers while encouraging sellers to adopt more accurate and reliable fulfillment practices. By reviewing the update on Seller Central and taking corrective action ahead of the deadline, seller-fulfilled merchants can avoid disruptions, maintain offer eligibility for Amazon Business customers, and continue delivering a dependable buying experience.
