Amazon shortens US SAFE-T claim filing window to 30 days from February 16

Seller-fulfilled order claims in the US must now be filed faster as Amazon aligns SAFE-T timelines with return and appeal periods

Amazon has announced an important change for US sellers using seller-fulfilled shipping. In an update shared on Seller Central, the company said the SAFE-T claim filing window will be reduced from 60 days to 30 days, effective February 16, 2026. The change applies to US seller-fulfilled orders and is aimed at aligning SAFE-T timelines with Amazon’s standard return and A-to-z claim appeal periods.

What is changing from February 16
As per the Seller Central announcement by Amazon, sellers will now have a shorter time to submit SAFE-T claims. Earlier, sellers could file claims within 60 days. From February 16 onwards, claims must be submitted within 30 days. This change applies only to new claims filed after the effective date. Any SAFE-T claims that are already in progress will not be affected.

How the new 30-day window is calculated
Amazon has clarified how the new filing window will work in different scenarios. For returned orders, the 30-day period will start from the return delivery scan at the seller’s warehouse or the refund date, whichever occurs later. In the case of lost shipments, the filing window will begin from the last scan event shown in the tracking details. Sellers should carefully track these dates to avoid missing the new deadline.

Why SAFE-T claims matter for sellers
SAFE-T claims are designed to protect sellers from losses that are beyond their control. These include cases of buyer abuse, items damaged during transit, or other issues where sellers believe a refund was not justified. By filing a SAFE-T claim, sellers can request reimbursement and present evidence to support their case. With the reduced filing window, timely monitoring of returns and refunds becomes even more critical.

What sellers should do before February 16
Amazon has advised sellers to review older returns and refunds before the new rule takes effect. Any eligible SAFE-T claims linked to events older than 30 days should be filed before February 16, 2026. Once the new filing window is in place, sellers will no longer be able to submit claims for events that occurred more than 30 days earlier. This makes early action especially important for sellers who handle a high volume of seller-fulfilled orders.

Additional tips for seller-fulfilled merchants
To adapt to this change, sellers may consider setting up internal reminders or weekly checks for returns and refunds. Regularly reviewing order reports and tracking return delivery scans can help ensure no claim deadlines are missed. Sellers can also refer to the Reimbursement for seller-fulfilled orders section on Seller Central for detailed guidance on SAFE-T eligibility, documentation, and best practices.

Practical workflow tips to avoid missing reimbursements
1. Create a routine to check refunds and returned packages daily, not weekly, because the deadline is shorter.
2. Log key dates immediately: refund date, return delivery scan date, and last carrier scan for shipments. Amazon’s new rules depend on these timestamps.
3. Collect evidence as you process returns, such as photos of condition and packaging, return labels, and any buyer messages, so your claim is ready when you file.
4. Set an internal deadline earlier than Amazon’s, such as filing within 10 to 15 days of the trigger date, to leave time for verification and documentation.

With the SAFE-T filing window for US seller-fulfilled orders shrinking to 30 days from February 16, 2026, sellers will need tighter checks on returns, refunds, and lost-shipment scans. The key takeaway is speed: review older cases now, then move to a faster weekly and daily rhythm so eligible reimbursements do not expire under the new deadline.
