Amazon India has announced the launch of a new fulfillment center in West Bengal, scheduled to go live on April 30, 2026. The update, shared on Seller Central, signals a key logistics transition in eastern India. Alongside improved delivery capabilities, the move comes with strict GST compliance deadlines that sellers must meet to avoid inventory disruptions and financial liabilities.

New fulfillment center to replace SCCE
According to the Seller Central announcement, the new fulfillment center, identified as SCUY, will replace the existing SCCE facility. Both facilities will not operate simultaneously, and the transition is being carried out in a phased manner.

The new warehouse is located in Howrah district, near key industrial and transport corridors. This positioning is expected to improve delivery speed and order processing efficiency across West Bengal and neighbouring eastern states.

Key transition dates sellers must track
Amazon has outlined clear operational deadlines that sellers must follow:
April 1, 2026: Inbound shipments to SCCE will stop
April 30, 2026: SCCE will stop processing customer orders

After these dates, all fulfillment activities will shift entirely to SCUY. Sellers must align their inventory planning accordingly to avoid delays or stockouts.

GST update deadline set for April 25
A crucial requirement highlighted in the Seller Central update is GST compliance. Sellers must update their GST registration certificates to include SCUY as an additional place of business by April 25, 2026.

Failure to meet this deadline can result in:
Removal orders for unsold inventory at SCCE
Possible tax authority actions due to non-compliance
Interruption in fulfillment services and order processing

Amazon has made it clear that GST verification is mandatory before inventory can be moved or new shipments can be accepted at SCUY.

Free inventory transfer for compliant sellers
For sellers who complete the GST update and documentation on time, Amazon will handle the transfer of sellable inventory from SCCE to SCUY.

This transfer will be carried out at no additional cost. Once completed, sellers can begin sending fresh inventory directly to the new facility without any disruption.

Strategic advantage for eastern India sellers
The new SCUY facility in Howrah is expected to strengthen Amazon’s logistics network in eastern India. Its proximity to Kolkata and major highways makes it a critical hub for faster last-mile delivery.

For sellers, this transition can offer:
i) Improved delivery timelines across eastern states
ii) Better inventory placement closer to demand centers
iii) Enhanced performance during festive and high-demand seasons

However, these benefits depend on timely compliance and proper transition planning.

Action plan for sellers
To ensure a smooth shift, sellers should act in advance and avoid last-minute delays. Key steps include:
i) Updating GST registration to include SCUY before April 25
ii) Completing all required documentation and verification on Seller Central
iii) Stopping shipments to SCCE from April 1 onward
iv) Planning inventory replenishment to SCUY

Sellers can reach out to their account managers or use the official compliance email provided on Seller Central for assistance.

Amazon’s upcoming fulfillment center in West Bengal marks a significant step in improving delivery infrastructure in eastern India. While the move promises faster and more efficient service, it also requires strict adherence to GST compliance timelines. Sellers who prepare early can ensure a seamless transition and take full advantage of improved logistics, while delays may lead to operational setbacks and avoidable costs.
