In a significant move to combat the rising tide of scams, Amazon has become the first retailer to join Stop Scams UK, an industry-led collaboration of responsible businesses. This alliance, which spans across the technology, financial services, and telecommunications sectors, is dedicated to eradicating scams at their very source.

Amazon's inclusion in Stop Scams UK not only amplifies the representation of technology companies within the collaboration but also brings its vast retail experience to the table. With a rich history of 25 years serving millions of customers and supporting over 100,000 small and medium-sized businesses, Amazon's commitment to safeguarding its customers from scams is unwavering.

"When it comes to protecting consumers, knowledge is power, and scammers are constantly devising creative new tactics to avoid detection and exploit trusted brands," said a spokesperson from Amazon. By joining forces with Stop Scams UK, Amazon aims to share real-time insights about emerging scam trends, such as business impersonation scams, to bolster consumer protection in the UK.

Amazon's team, which boasts machine learning scientists and expert investigators, will also collaborate with global law enforcement agencies to ensure scammers face the consequences of their actions. "We’re committed to ensuring that scammers do not use our brand, or other trusted brands, to take advantage of people," stated John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager at Amazon.

The urgency of this initiative is underscored by the alarming statistics surrounding fraud. Accounting for 41% of all UK crime, the scam crisis has escalated to emergency levels. In 2022 alone, UK consumers lost a staggering £1.2 billion to fraud, translating to nearly £2,300 every minute.
