Amazon UK has announced a key operational update for Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) sellers in the UK, changing how and when removal and disposal fees are charged. According to an official update shared on Seller Central, the new system will take effect from May 1, 2026, and aims to improve transparency and align with wider industry practices.
Shift to per-unit charging model
Under the revised system, FBA removal and disposal fees will now be charged on a per-unit basis at the time each unit is physically removed or disposed of. Earlier, sellers were billed only after the entire removal or disposal order had been completed.
This means charges will now be spread across the processing timeline rather than appearing as a single bulk fee at the end. While the timing of charges is changing, Amazon has clarified that the fee rates themselves remain unchanged.

Better visibility for sellers
The update is designed to give sellers more accurate and real-time visibility into their inventory removal costs. By linking fees directly to unit-level processing, sellers can better track how quickly inventory is being removed and how costs are accumulating.
This is particularly useful for businesses managing large volumes of slow-moving or excess stock, where removal orders may be processed over multiple days or weeks.
No action required from sellers
Amazon has stated that no manual action is needed. The new charging structure will automatically apply to all removal and disposal orders created on or after May 1, 2026.
Sellers can monitor these charges through the Transaction view in Seller Central, where shipment-level details and unit processing timelines will be reflected more clearly.
What it means for inventory planning
For sellers, this change could improve cash flow planning and cost forecasting. Instead of waiting for a final consolidated charge, businesses will now see fees applied incrementally. This can help in:
i) Planning inventory clearance strategies more efficiently
ii) Tracking ageing inventory costs in real time
iii) Avoiding sudden spikes in removal-related expenses
iv) Aligning accounting records more closely with actual warehouse activity
Industry alignment and operational clarity
Amazon noted that the move brings its fee structure closer to standard logistics and fulfilment industry practices, where charges are typically applied as services are performed rather than after completion.
This shift also reflects Amazon’s broader push to provide more granular data and transparency to sellers, especially as fulfilment networks become more complex and data-driven.
The update to FBA removal and disposal fee timing marks a practical improvement for Amazon UK sellers, focusing on transparency rather than cost changes. By moving to a per-unit, real-time charging model, sellers can gain clearer insights into inventory management expenses and make more informed operational decisions. As inventory efficiency becomes increasingly important in a competitive ecommerce environment, such updates could play a key role in helping sellers optimise both costs and workflows.
