Amazon Updates Product Image Policy: Multiple Seller Images Now Featured on Hardlines Product Pages

By Staff Writer

In a significant update on Seller-Central, effective January 31, Amazon has announced that the product detail pages for hardline products will feature images from multiple selling partners. This change aims to provide customers with comprehensive visual information, aiding them in making more informed purchasing decisions.

Key Changes to Image Display on Product Pages

Multiple Image Sources: Unlike the previous approach, where product pages displayed images from a single selling partner, the new system will incorporate images from various sellers or Amazon, if necessary.

Mandatory Image Requirements:
Each product detail page must include at least three essential images:

- A photo of the product against a white background.
- An image showing the product in a relevant environment.
- An image detailing the product's size and fit information.
Procedure for Incorrect Images: Sellers can contact Selling Partner Support to remove any incorrect images from their product pages.

Seller Community Reactions

1. Concerns About Brand Integrity: Some sellers express apprehension, highlighting that allowing any seller to submit pictures could violate licensee/licensor agreements and result in inaccurate or misleading imagery. The suggestion is for Amazon to permit only brand owners to upload images.

2. Risk of ASIN Hijacking: Another perspective acknowledges the positive intent but points out the risk of ASIN Hijacking, a long-standing issue exacerbated by Amazon's "multi-contributor" policy. A proposed solution is to notify the primary contributor on an ASIN to add required images before opening it to others.

3. Strategy for Complete Image Control: It's noted that filling all seven primary image spots with one's images prevents additions from other contributors. This observation hints at Amazon's intent to ensure sellers fully utilize the primary image slots.
