Amazon Launches Prime Air Drone Delivery in UK, Offering Deliveries Within 60 Minutes
Amazon begins commercial drone deliveries from its Darlington fulfillment center, marking the first Prime Air customer service outside the United States

Amazon has officially launched its Prime Air drone delivery service in the UK, marking a major expansion of its efforts to deliver customer orders faster using autonomous aircraft.
The service is operating from Amazon's fulfillment center in Darlington, England. It is the first Prime Air location outside the United States. Amazon says customers within a 7.5-mile, or 12-kilometer, radius of the facility can have eligible products delivered by drone.
The development follows years of planning, testing and regulatory work. Amazon first announced plans to bring Prime Air to the UK in 2023 and later selected Darlington as its first location. Drone flights began from the facility in early 2026 before the customer delivery service became operational.

Drone Deliveries in 60 Minutes or Less
Prime Air is designed for customers who need relatively small products quickly. According to Amazon, deliveries in Darlington can arrive within 60 minutes or less after an order is placed.
The service uses Amazon's MK30 delivery drone. The aircraft can carry packages weighing up to five pounds, or about 2.2 kilograms. Eligible products must also be small enough to fit inside a package roughly the size of a large shoebox.
Amazon says millions of items are currently eligible for drone delivery in the Darlington service area.
Customers do not need to use a separate Prime Air shopping platform. When an eligible customer buys a qualifying product, the drone delivery option can appear during the normal Amazon checkout process.
Who Can Receive Amazon Drone Deliveries?
The UK service is currently limited geographically. Customers need to be within the eligible area around the Darlington fulfillment center and must have a suitable outdoor delivery location, such as a garden, yard or driveway.
During checkout, Amazon presents a satellite view of the customer's property. Its mapping and AI systems identify potential delivery zones, allowing the customer to select an appropriate drop-off point.
Customers are asked to keep that area clear when the delivery is expected. No physical survey of the property is required beforehand.
How the MK30 Drone Works
The MK30 is Amazon's latest generation of delivery drone. It uses detect-and-avoid technology to identify potential obstacles and make decisions during flight.
Its onboard systems can detect objects including people, pets and physical obstacles. The drone is also designed to operate in more varied weather conditions, including light rain.
Amazon says the MK30 has twice the range of its previous model, while its redesigned propellers reduce perceived noise compared with earlier Prime Air drones.
Before a delivery flight in Darlington, an Amazon employee conducts a pre-flight inspection, checks key parts of the aircraft and installs a charged battery. Amazon says the MK30 has received approval from the UK's Civil Aviation Authority to conduct the operations.
