Amazon has marked a major milestone in its UK logistics journey, announcing that more than 1.6 billion items were delivered to Prime members in the UK on the same or next day in 2025. The company says this was its fastest delivery performance ever for British customers, reflecting years of investment in fulfilment centres, last-mile delivery, and technology. Globally, Prime members received over 13 billion items with same-day or next-day delivery, reinforcing the growing consumer expectation for speed and convenience in online shopping.

Record delivery speeds for Prime members
According to Amazon, Prime members in the UK saved an average of more than £200 last year through fast, free delivery alone, a figure that is more than double the cost of an annual Prime membership. Everyday essentials dominated fast deliveries, highlighting how Prime has shifted from an occasional convenience to a routine shopping option.

Key delivery highlights in the UK include
* Over 1.6 billion items delivered same or next day in 2025
* Millions of products available with One-Day Delivery at no extra cost
* Same-Day Delivery offered on over one million items in more than 80 towns and cities
* Household essentials and groceries accounting for a growing share of fast deliveries

What people ordered the fastest
Same-day delivery patterns across the UK revealed strong regional preferences. In Birmingham, an emergency rain poncho was delivered in under two hours during a sudden downpour, while in Altrincham, a tyre pump arrived before lunchtime to help a customer get back on the road.

Scotland saw particularly high demand for speedy deliveries of Irn-Bru, with Falkirk emerging as the top destination. In Aberdeen, dog food such as Lily’s Kitchen wet trays ranked among the most popular same-day orders. Wales reflected global wellness trends, with matcha products in high demand in Cardiff, while Oatly Barista Oat Drink proved popular in Brighton. Beauty products and health supplements featured heavily in Manchester, Liverpool and London shopping baskets.

Seasonal buying patterns also shaped delivery trends, from vitamins and wellness products in January to hayfever tablets in spring, pest control items in summer, and batteries and chocolates during the Christmas period. One shopper in Hale even received a Star Wars Advent Calendar in under two hours from click to delivery.

Prime’s evolution in the UK
Prime was first launched in the UK in 2007 with free One-Day Delivery, a move that reshaped online retail expectations. Today, the service goes beyond logistics, bundling shopping benefits with entertainment such as Prime Video and Amazon Music, as well as exclusive deals and partner offers.

Investment and innovation behind faster delivery
Amazon recently committed £40 billion over three years to expand and modernise its UK network. A significant focus has been on groceries and household essentials, which now represent roughly one in three items ordered daily. Rather than simply speeding up transport, Amazon says it is placing products closer to customers to reduce delivery distances.

The company is also testing Amazon Now, an ultra-fast service delivering groceries and essentials in around 30 minutes using electric-assisted bikes in parts of London.

John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager, Amazon, said, “Fast, reliable delivery makes a real difference to our customers’ everyday lives, particularly across our wide selection of groceries and household essentials. That’s why we continue to invest and innovate to make Prime delivery even faster, placing products closer to customers so they can get what they need, when they need it.”

With record-breaking delivery volumes, strong regional engagement, and continued multi-billion-pound investment, Amazon Prime’s 2025 performance highlights how fast delivery has become central to UK ecommerce. As Amazon expands same-day coverage and tests ultra-fast services, delivery speed is set to remain a key battleground in winning customer loyalty across the UK retail landscape.
