Amazon reminds sellers to meet Italy’s new EPR rules
Update on Seller Central covers registration, fees and deadlines for products sold on Amazon.it
Amazon has announced on Seller Central that new Extended Producer Responsibility rules now apply in Italy. The update affects a wide set of product categories and brings new duties for sellers and producers who list on Amazon.it. The goal is to ensure proper funding of recycling and take-back systems while making compliance easier to manage inside Seller Central.

What is changing
Italy now requires EPR registration, reporting and eco-contribution fees for several categories. These include electrical and electronic equipment, polyethylene, oils, packaging, tyres, mineral oils and batteries. If you sell or produce any of these items for the Italian market, you must register with the relevant Producer Responsibility Organization, report sales and pay the fees tied to each category.
Automatic enrolment if you do not submit ERNs
If you do not provide an EPR registration number for the categories below by the stated dates, Amazon will automatically enrol you into the EPR Pay on Behalf service for Italy.
December 31, 2025: WEEE based on your 2025 annual sales
March 30, 2026: Batteries, polyethylene, oils, packaging and tyres based on your quarterly sales

How EPR Pay on Behalf works
EPR Pay on Behalf calculates and pays the required eco-contribution fees for your eligible sales. Amazon then debits those amounts from your selling account, along with an annual service fee per enrolled EPR category. The service follows the EPR Pay on Behalf Policy for Third-Party Sellers in Italy. This can help you stay compliant if you cannot secure your own registration in time.
Who must handle compliance themselves
If you sell mineral oils, you need to comply on your own because Pay on Behalf is not offered for that category. If you are based in Italy and sell packaging, you must also manage compliance independently. Packaging rules do not apply to micro-enterprises.
Producers versus non-producers
If you are a producer
1. Register with an authorised Producer Responsibility Organization for each relevant category.
2. Report sales and pay eco-contribution fees as required by the PRO.
3. Submit your EPR registration number in Seller Central using Account Health, Manage your compliance and Submit compliance information. Click Save. A decision should arrive within seven working days.
If you are not a producer
1. Obtain the EPR registration numbers from your upstream suppliers.
2. Submit those ERNs in Seller Central using the same path.
3. Tick the box confirming you are not the producer.
Authorised representative for non-Italian entities
If your business is not established in Italy, you may need to appoint an authorised representative for the relevant category. Your Producer Responsibility Organization can confirm when this is required and how to set it up.
Key categories covered
*Electrical and electronic equipment
*Polyethylene
*Oils
*Packaging
*Tyres
*Mineral oils
*Batteries
Where to submit and verify
All submissions are made inside Seller Central. Use Account Health to upload ERNs, track decisions and view any missing information. Keep your proof of registration, fee payments and supplier attestations on file in case of audit.
Practical tips to prepare now
(i) Map your Italian catalog to EPR categories. Confirm whether you are the producer or a reseller for each ASIN.
(ii) Contact suppliers early to obtain valid ERNs and written confirmation of coverage.
(iii) Register with the appropriate PRO if you are a producer.
(iv) Review your quarterly sales cycles so your reports align with March 30 deadlines.
(v) Create a compliance folder per category with ERNs, invoices and reports.
(vi) Set reminders for December 31, 2025 and March 30, 2026 to avoid automatic enrolment or missed filings.
What happens if you ignore the update
If you do not provide ERNs in time, Amazon will enrol you in EPR Pay on Behalf and charge the calculated eco-contributions and an annual service fee. Not complying with national rules can also lead to enforcement by local authorities. Keeping ERNs current and sales reports accurate reduces both cost and risk.
