eBay has named Trosort as the Global Winner of the Circular Fashion Fund 2026, recognizing the startup's efforts to improve textile sorting and support the growing circular fashion economy. The announcement highlights eBay’s continued commitment to helping innovative businesses develop solutions that reduce waste, extend product life cycles, and make fashion more sustainable.
As the global winner, Trosort will have the opportunity to receive a US$300,000 investment from eBay Ventures, giving the company additional resources to expand its technology and strengthen its position within the circular fashion sector.

How Trosort is transforming textile sorting
Trosort was selected from eight international finalists representing the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, and Australia. The company uses artificial intelligence-powered textile sorting technology to digitize and modernize secondhand clothing operations.
Textile sorting remains one of the biggest challenges facing the fashion industry. Large volumes of used garments need to be accurately identified and sorted before they can be reused, repaired, resold, upcycled, or recycled. Traditional sorting processes are often labor-intensive and time-consuming.
Trosort’s technology aims to improve efficiency and transparency throughout this process. By automating sorting activities, the company hopes to help businesses recover more textiles, reduce waste, and support circular retail operations on a larger scale.

eBay’s Circular Fashion Fund enters fourth year
The Circular Fashion Fund is now in its fourth year and has become one of eBay’s key sustainability initiatives. The program supports startups and early-stage businesses developing solutions across the circular fashion ecosystem.
Areas supported by the fund include resale technology, repair services, recycling innovations, authentication tools, textile recovery systems, sourcing solutions, and infrastructure that helps extend the life of fashion products.
Since launching in 2022, the program has supported more than 30 businesses worldwide. eBay expects its total investment through the initiative to reach approximately US$1.9 million by the end of 2026.
Support beyond funding
Apart from financial support, the Circular Fashion Fund provides participating companies with access to mentoring, strategic guidance, and connections with industry experts, investors, and business leaders.
The 2026 finalists included Circular Sourcing, Ragpiq, Silhouet, Refabric, TRUSS, eComID, It Goes Forward, and Trosort. Each finalist received a grant and access to eBay’s global network of circular fashion specialists.
Industry leaders back innovation
The winners were chosen by a panel of experts from the fashion, sustainability, and investment sectors. The judging panel included Alexis Hoopes, Vice President of Global Fashion at eBay; Henri Jaanimaegi, Head of eBay Ventures; Indre Rockefeller, Founder and CEO of The Circularity Project; Peter Whitcomb, CEO of Tersus; Federica Marchionni, CEO of Global Fashion Agenda; Laird Borrelli-Persson of Vogue; and Joe Murphy, Chief Insights Officer at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
Achille Mathot, Co-founder and CEO of Trosort, said the recognition demonstrates the growing need for smarter infrastructure in the fashion industry. He noted that AI-powered systems can help improve efficiency, transparency, and garment recirculation at scale.
What this means for eBay sellers and shoppers
For eBay sellers, innovations like Trosort’s technology could contribute to a stronger secondhand marketplace by improving the availability and quality of pre-owned inventory. Better textile recovery systems may also create new opportunities for resale businesses and circular commerce entrepreneurs.
For shoppers, advancements in textile sorting and recycling infrastructure can help expand access to sustainable fashion choices while reducing the environmental impact associated with clothing waste.
With circular fashion becoming an increasingly important focus for retailers, brands, marketplaces, and consumers, eBay’s continued investment in emerging technologies signals growing confidence in the future of sustainable commerce. The selection of Trosort as the 2026 Global Winner underscores the role technology can play in making fashion more circular, efficient, and environmentally responsible in the years ahead.
