Amazon UK has recently shared a crucial official update for sellers on its Seller Central platform. Effective March 20, 2026, the company will change how the digital services fee is applied to sales across several European storefronts. This update is especially important for UK sellers who offer products to customers in France, Italy, and Spain.

What Is The Digital Services Fee
To fully understand this update, it helps to know why the fee exists. Several governments introduced a Digital Services Tax to ensure large multinational tech companies contribute their fair share of local taxes. In response to this government tax, Amazon created the digital services fee to offset its costs. This fee is added as a percentage increase to your standard Selling on Amazon fees, such as referral and closing fees, as well as your Fulfillment by Amazon charges.

To better align its underlying costs, Amazon is now adjusting this fee to match the specific tax rate of the country where the sale takes place
Key Changes Coming In March
The Seller Central announcement outlined three specific changes that will take effect on March 20. The adjustments depend entirely on where your business is established and where your items are sold.
1. Sellers based in the UK: You will face a 3% digital services fee on your Selling on Amazon and Fulfillment by Amazon fees for any sales made in the France, Italy, and Spain stores.
2. Sellers based in Italy or Spain: A 3% digital services fee will apply to your Selling on Amazon and Fulfillment by Amazon fees for sales in the UK and France stores.
3. Sellers based in other countries: A 3% fee will apply to Selling on Amazon fees for sales in Italy, Spain, and France. A 3% fee will also be added to Fulfillment by Amazon fees for sales in the France store.
Protecting Your Profit Margins
This update serves as an important reminder to regularly review your cost structure. Because the digital services fee increases your base selling and fulfillment costs, it can quickly cut into your net profits over time. Sellers should calculate the exact impact of this 3% increase on their most popular items and consider adjusting retail prices to maintain a healthy profit margin.
Tools To Help You Prepare
Amazon is providing resources to help you adapt to this transition smoothly. Starting on March 20, you will be able to see the exact digital services fee applied to your products by using the Revenue Calculator in Seller Central. Additionally, you can easily track these charges through the transaction view in your billing reports.
Preparing for these changes today will ensure your e-commerce business remains highly profitable tomorrow. Log into your Seller Central account to review your current fee breakdowns and start planning your pricing strategy before the March 20 rollout.
